Colleague training & development is essential to the on-going provision of the service and standards Superquinn customers have come to expect. The clear management of this process is essential to ensure that these standards are maintained and that Colleagues receive the training required in a timely and effective manner.

In order to deliver the training required across the business in an efficient and effective manner, the Company has adopted a devolved training approach. This consists of the division of training responsibility between the central training department and the stores.
In this model, some training is planned and managed centrally by the Training Department and the remainder of the training is planned and managed in Store.

Superquinn have always had an excellent reputation for training and developing their staff. We take great pride in helping our colleagues improve and advance their skills and knowledge.

Company Induction

New colleagues who join Superquinn will be invited to attend a full induction programme, which will be two days in duration and is held centrally so all new colleagues attend together.

Following the induction programme there will be additional training back in the store where the colleague will learn a great deal more about Superquinn, how we work together and how we involve all our colleagues in the running of our business.

This 2 day Induction programme will be delivered by the Central training team covering the following areas:

  • History and Philosophy of the Company
  • Uniform Standards
  • Working in Superquinn
  • Merchandising Standards & Skills
  • Health & Safety Training
  • Superquinn Vision & Values
  • Customer Care Training
  • Manual Handling Instruction
  • Food Safety Level 1 Training

When the Central Induction has been completed, colleagues will return to their stores and complete on-the-job training under the supervision of their Duty Manager.

We have some great on the job training which will provide you with the practical and technical skills you need to work effectively to make sure that you give our customers the best service possible and fully contribute to the success of the business. This will be delivered on the job, in-group training sessions and some computer based learning.

Colleague Development

As an indigenous company we have realised that in order to sustain our competitive advantage, we must train, develop and retain our colleagues. We are therefore committed to providing our Colleagues with learning opportunities and resources to meet our customer’s needs, and in return we will support our Colleagues in achieving their career development and educational goals. This is clearly demonstrated in two ways:

1. Firstly, the monetary contributions that we as an organisation invest in the continuous training and development of our colleagues. We strive to provide state of the art learning services for all Colleagues in an easily accessible, user-friendly way.

2. This in turn ensures that the skills pool within the organisation remains at a consistently high standard. Superquinn insists upon excellence in the service we provide to our customers – this philosophy extends to our colleagues.

Our training programs and materials incorporate effective instructional strategies for skill development relevant to jobs, to help colleagues establish a solid foundation of skills and competencies.

Superquinn delivers numerous opportunities for colleagues to learn through a variety of methods that include workshops, on the job training, computer based training, training manuals, best practice manuals, college courses/degrees and external courses. Superquinn’s training department provides many training programs for colleagues at all levels.
