Superquinn Premium ham was introduced into Superquinn in 1993 after a seven year search for the perfect ham for the Irish consumer.

The development of Superquinn Premium ham, as we know it today, started with a product which consisted of five muscles. Over time this evolved into a three muscle ham and this was finally refined into a topside single muscle ham.

Although the meat was perfect in terms of taste, we needed to guarantee that each ham was consistent in terms of colour and fat content. To achieve this, a revolutionary butchery method was developed to trim the topside giving it a consistent look. By introducing this butchery method our Premium ham became the first trimmed single muscle ham.

Premium ham became an instant hit with our customers and subsequently a number of variants using the same process were introduced, oak smoked Premium ham and Clove Premium ham. In the summer of 2004 our Premium ham was launched in pre-pack.
