In September 2008 Superquinn announced that

Barretstown would be our charity of choice for

the next three years, and committed to raising

1 million Euro during the term of the partnership.

Located in Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare, Barretstown is a unique therapeutic recreation camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses and their families. While hospitals take care of their physical needs, Barretstown takes care of the their emotional needs, giving them back a little of the childhood they loose through their illness.

The partnership kicked off with a successful family fun day in each of our stores which raised over €40,000. Since then a variety of fundraising activities have been undertaken by our stores and head office colleagues, including participation by Superquinn in the Great Ireland Run 2009.

Barretstown provides challenging activity-based programmes for both children affected by cancer and other serious illness and their families. Through specialist-run activity programmes such as horse-riding, drama, canoeing and fishing, Barretstown aims to rebuild the confidence, self-esteem and courage that these children have lost due to illness and provide an invaluable opportunity for families to spend time together in a safe, fun and supportive environment.
